I love “ah-ha” moments don’t you? I especially love it when the Lord reveals and clarifies some undeniable truth you hadn’t thought of before. Earlier today, I was engaged in a meaningful conversation with one of my colleagues on LinkedIn about the psychological aspects of racism and the inability of some white people to acknowledge and even confront truth when faced with it. My response went something like this, “Imagine the level of ignorance and psychosis it takes to oppress a group of people for well over 400 years when you believe yourself to be the superior of the two. I have studied psychology and this is a classic textbook case of mental illness at its highest level of psychosis.”
Now, here is the “ah-ha” moment behind all this. The Lord spoke something significant into my spirit that gave me pause to think about racism in a different light. He said: “Anyone who believes themselves to be superior has the advantage. If you have the advantage, then you do not need to oppress, control, or manipulate other people or force them into submission and obedience because you are the standard. You become the standard by which all things are established.
Truth, when manifested and exemplified the right way (God’s way), draws all things to it. Therefore, anyone who feels the need to oppress, suppress, or enforce a set of false values, rules or systems in an attempt to control, manipulate, or deceive other people is showing their hand. They are revealing to you exactly who they are and that they lack the required self discipline and control to have the advantage. As such, they are not the standard one should follow. Now, can we just marinate in that truth for a minute?
