The Bible offers simple and practical solutions on how to fortify ourselves in times of trouble, distress, uncertainty, and sadness. One of the things we are taught to do is to restore our minds by thinking on things that rejuvenate (that which stands for truth, honesty, and justice), instill joy (that which is pure and lovely), and provide a sense of peace (that which is of good report). (Philippians 4:8).
However, there is also another side to this coin that we often fail to manage well. That is, how to maneuver when God is challenging us, intentionally stretching us, and preparing us for new and greater things. If I were to offer any sound advice or wisdom on the subject it would be this: Whatever you are going through—however God is stretching you—it is necessary for your continued growth and overall development!
Think about it this way . . .
Physically speaking, stretching helps to promote greater flexibility, elasticity, and increased control. It makes us more pliable and limber to be humbly used as God sees fit. However, there is a practical side to all of this that we often miss. The sheer act of being “processed” or “stretched” in and of itself is a process!
Gold can only be refined when its impurities rise to the top and are skimmed off. Diamonds can only be formed in places of darkness, inside the earth, under extreme conditions of intense heat and immense pressure. It stands to reason then that anything of substantial value MUST BE PROCESSED first. I would also add, if God is stretching you, then you are not ordinary! You are EXTRA ORDINARY and EXTRAORDINARY!
The goal for you then is to remain focused and resolved in keeping your eyes on the prize and not your current circumstances.
